Library/Media Aide (acting librarian)
Patrons Your Library Serves:
What was your first library job?
Right here about 28 years ago.
Why are you proud to be a librarian?
Although I’m not an actual librarian, I am so proud to open a whole new world of books to students.
How do you stay inspired?
When I’m reading to a class and suddenly realize I have all of them in the palm of my hand because they can’t wait for me to turn the page. We talk about how some books pertain to life and its choices. I always tell them they won’t like every book they read, and that’s OK, but I say, ‘You don’t know if you like it if you haven’t opened it.’ And from kindergarten on they know my favorite word is imagination!
What do you do for fun? What’s one thing people wouldn’t guess about you?
I always seem to get lost in book stores. I’ve often told classes when my husband and I are on vacation and he can’t find me, he goes to the nearest book store and I’m always there. 🙂
Describe your best day at the library. What made it memorable?
Oh my goodness … there are so many! One stands out and I hope I never forget it. A kindergartener and I were discussing our favorite animals and I said mine was a lightning bug. I asked how something so small could make a light so bright, and without missing a beat, he told me. Because they have a light switch on their butts!
What are your favorite Demco products? (Oldies but goodies and newbies welcome.)
Book repair wings are awesome!
If the sky were the limit, what would you do at your library?
Knock out a wall (or two)
How do you envision your library in 2025?
I will no longer be here, but hope the library is. I think electronic readers are horrible.
What’s the best piece of advice you have for your fellow librarians?
Always inspire your students to keep trying until they find genres or authors they like. I don’t believe “Captain Underpants” has any literary value, but if it gets a non-reader to open it … well then maybe it’s not so bad.
