Describe your library’s most innovative or most successful service or program.
One of our most innovative and successful services is the offering of Book Bundles. Book Bundles make it very easy for kids and parents (especially) to check out the appropriate books. Five books, of various subjects, are specially chosen and bundled together with rubber bands and decorated with ribbon bows. We make bundled sets for children ranging in ages 3 to 8 years and 1st through 5th grades. It truly looks like a present from the library. This service makes it easy for the busy parent who may not have the time to search for books, the parent who may not know which books are appropriate for their child, and even the staff member who may not be familiar with our children’s collection. Book Bundles not only help to create colorful book displays, they also function as a creative way to increase book circulation.
What’s the best piece of advice you have for your fellow librarians?
The best piece of advice I can offer fellow librarians is simple: keep an open mind, as children will surprisingly test your boundaries of imagination.
