Patrons Your Library Serves:
What was your first library job?
This year, after nearly 25 years in education, is my first year as a librarian.
Why are you proud to be a librarian?
There has never been a better time to be an educator and there is no better place to offer great learning opportunities than in the library.
How do you stay inspired?
Being so new at this important job, there seems no end to the ways I can expand my skills: teaching, learning, technology, the emerging role of a media center at school and on and on!
What do you do for fun? What’s one thing people wouldn’t guess about you?
I love to watch the old Perry Mason episodes. Mystery, justice and a glimpse at an older America.
Describe your best day at the library. What made it memorable?
One day I unpacked some new books, helped students expand their interests by searching our library catalogue, hosted one class as they did a research project, and taught my regular 6th grade library/media class. It all came together as a great day! Not really all that unusual, though.
What are your favorite Demco products? (Oldies but goodies and newbies welcome.)
Just getting started! No favorite yet.
If the sky were the limit, what would you do at your library?
Remodel, set up the books in a “book store” fashion, and create a huge digital library with all sorts of books and online resources for students and teachers alike.
How do you envision your library in 2025?
A flexible space with fewer tables than we have now. We will still offer hard-copy books, creatively displayed as well as a hefty digital collection. Students will be comfortable here. Teachers will feel welcome to bring their classes here. Students will take a more active role as members of book clubs, teaching assistants, geek-squad helpers. And much more technology than we have now. I don’t even have a smartboard!
What’s the best piece of advice you have for your fellow librarians?
Reach out and help the new guys! LOL.
